Dr. Zale Mednick MD FRCSC DABO
General, Cataract Surgery, Cornea and Anterior Segment Surgery
Dr. Zale Mednick is an ophthalmologist with subspecialty training in cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery. He completed both his medical school and ophthalmology residency training at Queen's University. During residency, he served as Chief Resident at Queen's and was also elected as the president of The Council of Canadian Ophthalmology Residents. Following residency, Dr. Mednick completed a two-year cornea fellowship at The University of Toronto under the supervision of Dr. Allan Slomovic, Dr. David Rootman and Dr. Clara Chan.
Dr. Mednick is currently on staff at both North York General Hospital and Humber River Hospital. He performs cataract surgeries, corneal transplantations, and a variety of ocular surface procedures including pterygium removals and superficial keratectomies. He also works as a refractive surgeon, providing LASIK and PRK.
Dr. Mednick has been a lead or co-author of multiple peer-reviewed papers in ophthalmology journals including Cornea, The Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and The American Journal of Ophthalmology. He has presented at multiple conferences, including The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
Dr. Mednick previously worked as one of the doctors on the medical team for the hit television show, Survivor, between 2012-2015. He has run the award-winning podcast Preconceived since 2019 and has recently launched a new podcast called Blind Spot - The Eye Doctor's Podcast. He is fluent in Spanish and has many Spanish-speaking patients in his practice.
