Dr. Baseer Khan MD FRCSC
Glaucoma, cataract, anterior segment & refractive surgeon
Dr. Baseer Khan is an internationally respected ophthalmologist, serving as a global and national consultant and thought leader for many top industry-related partners and organizations. He is one of the founders of Clarity Eye Institute, the largest ophthalmic group in Ontario.
After graduating top surgical resident in the ophthalmology program at University of Toronto, Dr. Khan went on to sub-specialize in complex anterior segment reconstruction and glaucoma surgery. Upon completion, he spent three years working as an associate in multiple practices before deciding to open his own practice. In 2009, he founded Clarity Eye Institute, a private surgery clinic (and sister-company to Lumea) and has grown the business to multiple locations across the GTA.
Considered a pioneer in the use of new technologies, Dr. Khan’s many accomplishments include performing over 35,000 intraocular and 20,000 laser surgeries. He is the first surgeon in North America to use the Victus Femtosecond laser second platform and implant the Bausch + Lomb Envista lens and PhysIOL FineVision trifocal lens. He is also one of the first two surgeons in Canada to use the RxSight Light Adjustable Lens.
In addition to his surgical and consulting work, Dr. Khan has also served as principal investigator on many medical and surgical trials in both the cataract and glaucoma space and continues to educate and share knowledge through the several advisory boards on which he sits.
Dr. Khan is currently the Chief of Ophthalmology at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket, and is on staff at Mount Sinai Hospital, Kensington Eye Institute and North York General Hospital. He holds the position of Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine where he actively teaches residents and medical students.
Completing the Physician CEO program at the Kellogg School of Management was one of his most pivotal and transformative achievements – an experience that has influenced his approach to business, career, and life.
Dr. Khan is devoted to making a difference in all patients’ lives, especially those less fortunate. From providing eyecare to Syrian and Palestinian refugees to caring for patients in Vietnam, India, and Jamaica, it’s his compassion and commitment to enhancing the lives of others that built the vision for Clarity Eye Institute and Lumea.
